About

the Role

The Programme Manager:
Heritage Events leads the Museum’s public heritage events programme. This includes major events at the Depot, off‑site heritage vehicle activity, and the delivery of Depot Tours. You will develop and deliver a creative, audience‑focused programme that reflects the Museum’s collection, supports engagement and learning, and generates social and financial value.

You will oversee the planning, delivery and evaluation of events, working closely with internal teams, external partners and contributors. The role includes budget responsibility, income generation targets and management of staff, volunteers and freelancers involved in event delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Plan and deliver the annual heritage events programme.
  • Manage the operational delivery and evaluation of events and seasonal activities.
  • Develop engaging content and experiences tailored to a wide audience range.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners and suppliers.
  • Lead programme evaluation and use insights for continuous improvement.
  • Manage budgets (c. £100k) and support income generation (c. £400k annually).
  • Support, lead and develop staff, freelancers and volunteers.
What You’ll Need Skills & Knowledge
  • Proven ability to design and deliver coordinated event programmes.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Confident relationship‑builder with a flexible approach.
  • Knowledge of event management, public engagement and cultural learning.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding principles.
Experience
  • Event coordination experience in a heritage, museum or cultural setting.
  • Experience working with adult and intergenerational audiences.
  • Experience designing and evaluating public engagement experiences.
