Position Type: Full time, Temporary 16 week term with possibility of extension
Eligibility: This position is open to applicants who are currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution and are under the age of 30, in accordance with funding program supporting this position
Wage: $19 per hour at 40 hours per week

About You- Enjoy storytelling through photos, video, and writing, and are excited about using those skills to support environmental protection work.
- Have an interest in conservation, climate change, or outdoor education, and are motivated by the idea of helping people connect with nature through media.
- Comfortable working in dynamic environments, including field settings, community events, and office-based editing and planning work.
- Take initiative, can manage multiple tasks at once, and are willing to learn new tools and systems as part of a supportive team.
- Experience with social media platforms, basic photo/video editing, or content creation is an asset, but not required;
creativity, willingness to learn, and passion for environmental storytelling is the priority.
The Social Media & Content Assistant will support and enhance CPAWS Manitoba’s digital communications by helping translate conservation work into compelling public storytelling. This contract role will supplement the work of the existing communications team, providing additional capacity to create engaging and timely content that highlights environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate and nature solutions.
The employee will be responsible for producing and publishing social media content, capturing media at field-based conservation activities and community events, and assisting with blog and video content. The role is intended to amplify CPAWS Manitoba’s online presence and strengthen public awareness of protected areas, wildlife habitat conservation, and ongoing environmental initiatives across Manitoba.
Scope of Work- Create, edit, and schedule engaging content for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, You Tube) in alignment with CPAWS Manitoba’s communications strategy.
- Capture and produce photos and video content during outreach events, education programs, and other activities.
- Write blog posts and website copy highlighting CPAWS Manitoba initiatives and community involvement.
- Support the Outreach and Education teams by documenting key activities and sharing live or time‑sensitive content.
- Collaborate with the Communications Manager to maintain consistent messaging and tone.
- Assist with monitoring social media trends and identifying opportunities for audience engagement.
- Help organize and maintain a content calendar in coordination with existing communications planning.
- Consistent stream of scheduled and real‑time social media content throughout the duration of the term.
- Minimum number of blog posts (to be determined in consultation with Communications Manager).
- Short‑form video content from events, field trips, and other summer activities.
- Archived media (photos and video) from events and outreach activities, organized for future use.
- Weekly content reports or updates, as agreed upon.
This position will require office shifts, remote shifts from home office, on‑location attendance at events, field trips, and community programs. The contractor must be available to work some evenings and weekends. A flexible work schedule will be accommodated based on event timing, workload and availability.
Additional NotesThe contractor will report directly to the Communications Manager. Regular check‑ins will be scheduled to align on priorities, deliverables, and scheduling flexibility. This is a temporary, project‑based contract position intended to expand CPAWS Manitoba’s communications capacity. It is distinct from the existing Digital Marketing Coordinator role and does not include long‑term strategic planning responsibilities.
