PURPOSE OF

THE ROLE

Are you a dynamic and driven producer of longform visual content? Do you make shows that sparkle with a mix of facts, fun and visual style? Do you make content that builds a relationship with audiences and keeps them coming back for more? Are you excited by the creative opportunities afforded by the evolving world of longform audio-visual content? Then this is the position for you…

This is an opportunity to join the award‑winning Factual team at BBC Studios Audio. We make podcasts and visualised content for the BBC (iPlayer, Sounds, BBC You Tube, Radio 4 and Radio
5), as well as producing a growing slate of programmes for commercial audio platforms. We also make and monetise our own direct‑to‑market content. Our shows include You’re Dead to Me, Evil Genius, Evil Animals, A History of the USA in 100 Objects, Good Bad Billionaire, Desert Island Discs, In Our Time, Ready to Talk with Emma Barnett, Great Lives and Life Changing.

You’ll be tasked with developing and producing new visualised podcasts for the BBC and commercial platforms as well as visualising existing audio content.

This role involves working closely with the whole team at BBC Studios. You’ll regularly collaborate with producers and execs in the wider Audio Unit (which includes Drama, Comedy and Ents). You’ll also have the opportunity to work closely with TV colleagues in the wider BBC Studios Factual community.

Note that there is a similar role being advertised concurrently within the Comedy and Ents team at BBC Studios Audio. While there is a skills overlap between the two roles, you should apply for the role which feels most appropriate to your experience.

YOUR

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Lead the development and delivery of innovative and high-performing audio and audio-visual content for a range of BBC and third-party platforms and partners.
  • Oversee studio and location recordings, managing audio and multi-camera workflows to ensure strong sound, visual coherence and editorial integrity.
  • Lead, motivate and support a multidisciplinary production team (audio, video, digital), within our wider production business, delivering a clear editorial vision in line with our over-arching strategy and contributing to an open, creative, safe, supportive and professional workplace culture.
  • Understand and contribute to the creation of short-form content out of your long-form content.
  • Work closely with hosts and contributors, managing those relationships and building a durable production model, to capture their best possible performances in both audio and video.
  • Plan and manage production workflows, schedules and budgets in collaboration with Production Management.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Proven experience producing successful video content in a commercial environment.
  • A demonstrable passion for developing and innovating entertaining audio and video formats across factual genres.
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with hosting talent, contributors and creative teams.
  • Experience overseeing multi-camera studio or location shoots, or equivalent visual production workflows.
  • An understanding of podcast commercial frameworks, including revenue, distribution, and platform models for both audio and video.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with others.

If you can bring these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, creative passion and a desire to keep audiences glued to your content, we would love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
