The Blender Story Artist will have excellent narrative and drawing skills
, and a clear understanding of staging, character, and comedy. Additionally, they would be expected to have generalist knowledge of Blender.

As Blue Zoo are using a new integrated workflow using Blender, this will enable the story artist to draw directly in the scene, speeding up the animation process considerably.

This opportunity is due to start in Mid September through to February 2027. They are very happy to discuss flexible, hybrid and remote working options for all vacancies.

The successful candidate will need to be
based in the UK and will require the right to work in the UK.

Day to Day:

• Working with the Directors directly in Blender: sets up cameras, draws with Grease Pencil in the actual scene with real environment assets and scale models.
• Artist owns the edit: markers define cuts, publish renders the animatic
• Maintaining consistency and perspective when drawing characters throughout all boards, staying on model.
• Working alongside the Director to ensure fixes and feedback has been incorporated into the scenes.

• Experience with Grease Pencil, including generalist understanding/knowledge of Blender
• Excellent understanding of perspective and strong posing
• Expert knowledge of layout and composition
• A demonstrated and accomplished understanding of story and staging
• Ability to communicate emotive character and witty comedy throughout boards
• The ability to deliver on schedule, working calmly and efficiently under pressure
• Able to take direction and willing to address constructive feedback
• Able to communicate clearly with colleagues
• Able to work collaboratively, as well as independently
• Have an appreciation of accuracy and pay close attention to detail

Master the exact workflow used in professional animation pipelines by learning the timeless 12 basic principles of animation. From timing, spacing, and volume control to easing in and out, and so much more. We will go over everything you need to understand about animation in just 3 months.
By the end you'll have created your first portfolio-ready animated shots

Jump into developing dynamic character animation by building strong foundations in walk cycles, posing, and design, then progressing into action shots, perspective, and movement in space. You’ll refine weight, rhythm, and staging, and finish by assembling a polished demo reel that showcases your character in motion.
New students are required to submit animation samples for review before joining.

In this course, you’ll focus on character acting in 2D animation, learning how to bring emotion and personality into your work. You’ll develop expressive performances by studying references and analyzing character emotions then translating them into believable movement.
You’ll go beyond mechanics and learn how to create authentic, engaging performances that connect with the audience.
New students are required to submit animation samples for review before joining.

2D Animation Short film creation Starting soon

In the Short Film Creation course you'll be animating a teaser trailer. Students will collaborate as a full production team, animators, artists, and composers, building the project from concept to final cut. It’s fandom, craft, and industry-level storytelling all in one epic experience.
