United Health Group Optum is a global organization that delivers care, aided by technology to help millions of people live healthier lives. The work you do with our team will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need to feel their best. Here, you will find a culture guided by inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits and career development opportunities.
Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health optimization on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together. We're looking for a versatile, experienced Senior UX Designer to help shape and deliver thoughtful, high-quality web experiences. This role will work closely with content, digital, business, and technology partners to translate ideas, opportunities, user needs, and business objectives into effective digital experiences.
A significant part of the role will focus on designing, building, and continuously improving web experiences - from understanding an initial request and framing the underlying problem to exploring solutions in Figma, implementing the experience within our content management system, and evaluating opportunities for improvement after launch. The ideal candidate combines solid UX thinking with excellent visual design craft. They understand information architecture, content hierarchy, human-centered design, accessibility, and responsive web design, but apply those disciplines pragmatically rather than relying on a prescribed process for every project.
We're looking for someone who is comfortable beginning with ambiguity, developing a point of view, challenging assumptions when appropriate, and independently moving work from problem to solution. They should be equally comfortable working within established design systems and recognizing when recurring experience needs may require those systems to evolve. This person will also help advance how our team approaches digital experience design.
They should be curious about and experimenting with emerging technologies (including AI) and actively exploring how new tools and approaches can improve design workflows, accelerate learning, expand creative possibilities, and ultimately create better user experiences.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely
* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
Web UX Design & Implementation Partner with content, digital, business, and technology stakeholders to understand objectives, user needs, constraints, and measures of success
Translate loosely defined requests and complex content requirements into clear, intuitive web experiences
Frame experience problems and recommend appropriate solutions rather than assuming the initial request or proposed deliverable is necessarily the right answer
Use information architecture, content hierarchy, interaction design, and user journey thinking to organize complex information into understandable and useful experiences
Design new pages, page systems, and digital experiences, often beginning with limited direction or an initial content or business brief
Create wireframes, experience concepts, high-fidelity designs, and interactive prototypes in Figma to explore and communicate design recommendations
Explore multiple design approaches where appropriate and develop a clear point of view around the recommended solution
Build, update, and publish experiences within our content management system, including Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)
Work alongside the broader digital team to continuously iterate and improve existing web experiences rather than treating launch as the end of the design process
Apply human-centered design, accessibility, responsive design, usability, and interaction-design best practices throughout the work Identify opportunities to improve page architecture, hierarchy, storytelling, navigation, comprehension, engagement, and overall user experience
Recommend changes to content structure, page architecture, or experience flow when the initial request does not represent the solidest solution
