A Staff Writer develops story ideas, conducts research, interviews, takes photos or videos, assembles background and media relevant to the story, and authors a final story for submission to the Editor. Follows up with corrections or revisions in response to feedback and as stories develop over time. Writers assist the Editor in planning and developing news and feature stories. Story topics are wide-ranging, and may include breaking news, investigation, sports, arts, and community events.
WorkHours, Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time remote working position. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, health care and 401K. The Staff Writer reports to the Editor. Pay range is $20-$30/hour. We also engage writers and photographers for part-time and freelance assignments.
Qualifications,Education and Experience
- Strong writing background.
- Experience adhering to editorial and technical style guides.
- Strong oral and written communication.
- Experience with photojournalism and visual storytelling.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, or related field
- 1+ years demonstrated excellence in content creation.
Coastside News Group, Inc. is a California Public Benefit Corporation dedicated to sustaining quality journalism on the San Mateo Coastside, from Pacifica to Pescadero, and from Skyline to the Sea. We tell the stories of the community and provide the information our residents and visitors need to make informed democratic choices. We provide online news sites with daily newsletters as well as a monthly printed magazine which is distributed up and down the coast.
We continue the traditions of the award-winning Half Moon Bay Review and Pacifica Tribune, which have been serving the Coastside for over 125 years.
