News Guard’s analysts fight false information, primarily by producing detailed ratings for news and information sites that assess each site’s trustworthiness based on nine apolitical, journalistic criteria .
Journalists at News Guard use reporting skills to track down funding and ownership for anonymous websites that spread falsehoods, debunk inaccuracies, and preemptively warn users about dubious sources before they are widely shared. They also identify false claims spreading online, debunk those claims, and track their origins and spread to contribute to News Guard’s continuously updated False Claims Fingerprints datastream. The France reporter will cover francophone media and information sources, and help the country leader with other tasks in that market.
The France reporter will also support the French team in its coverage of the 2027 French presidential election, including reviewing news sites’ coverage of the election for News Guard’s ratings, monitoring and debunking false claims related to the election, and tracking disinformation campaigns targeting the French elections.
In addition to rating news and information sites and tracking false claims circulating online, News Guard’s analysts have the opportunity to write in-depth, high-profile reports about key trends and issues in information integrity. News Guard’s reporting is regularly covered and cross-published in outlets such as the New York Times, The Guardian, the Wall Street Journal, Les Echos, Welt, Le Monde, La Repubblica, the Washington Post, Politico, Newsweek, and others.
