This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
LOCATION: 3000 Arctic Boulevard
Remote work schedule opportunities: Telecommuting may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work per P&P 40-40.
Eligibility: Applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service in support of water and wastewater utility operations, resolving customer concerns, maintaining billing accuracy, and fostering strong relationships through responsive service and clear communication.
- Explain utility services, billing rates, and payment options; collect monthly payments; establish payment arrangements; manage delinquent accounts; and assist customers with online account access.
- Coordinate field service appointments for on-site work, such as inspections, repairs, or key box locates.
- Use customer information systems such as KUBRA, Maximo, customer information systems, and service dispatch tools.
- Participate in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU’s disaster plan matrix, which may include 12‑hour shifts that may continue for 72 hours or more, at any time, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience in a customer service, collection, or accounting environment.
- Satisfactory background check including criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
- Compliance with preference for AMEA employees: AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non‑AMEA applicants.
Selection for hire is conditional upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check, encompassing criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
Military Service Interview PreferenceVeterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 (D), must attach a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge.
The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service must be shown by submission of a statement of service on the individual's command organization letterhead, including full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, unit of assignment, signature, title, and contact information of the signer.
The statement must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
