What You will do

As a Collector, you’ll work directly with borrowers to help resolve defaulted student loans. You’ll conduct outreach, discuss repayment and settlement options, and set up payment plans while handling more complex account issues as needed. This role combines problem‑solving, communication, and compliance to help borrowers move forward.

TRAINING

SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm EST

AFTER TRAINING

SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday; 3 days 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 2 days 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; one Friday per month 10:00 a.m.

-7:00 p.m. All times are EST.

Responsibilities Include

Communicate with account holders regarding the repayment of their defaulted student loan

  • Achieve assigned metrics and performance indicators as determined by management
  • Profile account holders and obtain financial information:
    Update demographic and financial information on each call.
  • Negotiate the best possible arrangements.

Perform skip tracing

  • Use skip-tracing tools to locate account holders.
  • Effectively communicate with third parties to obtain location information.
  • Profile accounts that are determined unlocatable or exhausted.

Ensure all accounts are worked within client standards and Federal Regulations

  • Maintain specified file of accounts per client standards.
  • Work within FDCPA, state regulations, department/division & DMO Compliance Policies
  • Maintain clear, concise and accurate documentation of all attempts and/or contacts made and received for accounts in accordance with company and client specifications.

Maintain continuing education, training in industry career development

  • Maintain current knowledge of and comply with all federal and state rules and regulations governing collections including FDCPA, Privacy Act, FCRA, etc.
  • Attend training sessions as directed by management.
  • Integrate information obtained through training sessions and policy changes immediately into daily routine.

Other duties assigned by management.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma/ GED/ equivalent.

  • 6+ months of progressive work experience (3rd party collection environment preferred), in addition to working knowledge of how to handle a route.
  • PC experience in a Windows environment.

  • Basic keyboarding skills.

  • Ability to work flexible day and evening hours as required.

  • Must be able to obtain required License for collecting.

Home Office Technology Requirements

Navient will provide equipment. Qualified candidates must secure the following to successfully execute job responsibilities:

  • Reliable high-speed internet – 100mbps download/ 10 upload speed minimum.

  • Private workspace or home office free from distractions.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production and quality goals.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Negotiation, counseling and problem solving skills.
