VP of Space and Design, 2 Hour Learning (Remote)

Base pay: $100/hr (equivalent to $200,000/year).

Certain spaces simply work. You instinctively understand why. If you’re a designer who perceives both fine details and overarching systems, thrives in physical environments rather than on concept boards, and believes that beautiful, functional spaces can—and must—scale, this role activates those instincts.

We are constructing a nationwide portfolio of 2 Hour Learning campuses. These are settings where students condense an entire academic day into two hours of concentrated learning, then dedicate the remainder to exploring interests, developing essential skills, and engaging in physical activity. Your mission is to make these settings memorable. Serving as the implementation leader for interior environments throughout our network, you will establish modular guidelines for spatial planning, FF&E, play areas, and navigation.

You will guarantee precise execution at each location, visit campuses, identify overlooked deficiencies, define improvement projects, and shepherd them from budgeting through installation.

This role differs from conventional design positions in that it keeps you connected to the work. You won’t simply deliver drawings and hope outcomes align. You will be present—correcting installation issues, coaching vendors, and gathering insights that refine subsequent deployments. If you are prepared to translate your design expertise into nationwide influence, this is your opportunity.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Build modular, self-service design frameworks for spatial planning, FF&E, finishes, and play zones that replicate effectively across varied campus sites
  • Execute on-site evaluations using standardized assessment tools to measure compliance with brand criteria and identify priority enhancements
  • Produce detailed, visual, financially scoped proposals for facility enhancements that align with educational philosophy, brand identity, and family perception
  • Manage vendor performance on-site, guaranteeing adherence to standards, financial constraints, and schedules through live quality assurance
  • Complete the feedback cycle following installation by recording successes and failures, then revising operational guides to reflect learnings
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Crafting unique, bespoke environments that resist replication or scaling.
  • Delivering specifications and disengaging. You own the entire process from evaluation through installation.
  • Waiting for complete information. This position values proactive decision-making, rapid iteration, and sound judgment amid uncertainty.
  • Generating open-ended design without constraints. The work is tightly integrated with brand principles and operational realities.
  • Operating remotely. You will spend 50-75% of your time in the field.
VP of Space and Design

Key Responsibilities

Guarantee that each campus provides a high-quality, brand-consistent, and pedagogically functional physical environment through the development and implementation of modular design frameworks that maintain quality at scale.

Basic Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing multi-location environments in education, retail, hospitality, or co-working
  • Portfolio of executed projects that demonstrates balance between aesthetic excellence and operational feasibility
  • Proven experience developing replicable, standards-driven design frameworks, not merely custom environments
  • Hands‑on management of vendor implementation, including quality control and schedule oversight
  • Robust documentation capabilities and cross‑functional communication proficiency, particularly with stakeholders outside the design discipline
  • Willing and able to travel frequently, 50–75% of the time, across the U.S.
  • Based in the U.S. and eligible to work without visa sponsorship
Nice-to-Have Requirements
  • Background designing premium environments held to rigorous standards, such as boutique hospitality, luxury retail, or high-end residential projects
  • Proficiency with spatial documentation platforms like AutoCAD, Revit, Figma, or comparable tools
  • An intuitive grasp of what elevates a space to feel premium, even under budget constraints
