Overview

Fletcher Studio seeks a mid-level landscape architect to lead projects ranging from public open spaces, urban streetscapes, civic plazas, multi-family housing, and urban master planning. As project lead/mid-level landscape architect, you’ll work closely with Studio Principals to develop and implement design objectives, manage design staff, and coordinate with consultants and clients while maintaining these essential relationships.

Fletcher Studio is located along the 3rd Street corridor in the Dopatch Neighborhood of San Francisco. We are an agile, close-knit team working to create conceptually rich and sustainable landscapes, urban spaces, and living infrastructures. We believe design matters, and that people deserve to find value, meaning, and possibility in the places they encounter and occupy. We work with city makers, communities, and other visionaries to realize evocative and appropriate concepts, designed and constructed to ensure social vitality and integrity.

We leverage technology to work faster and smarter—people, ideas, and culture drive our process. Our small studio offers opportunities for leadership and mentorship.

About the role

As a landscape architect at Fletcher Studio, you will lead the design process on a variety of projects, from conceptual development to detailed construction documentation. You will be a design leader, working closely with both junior and senior team members to create compelling landscapes that balance creativity, sustainability, and functionality. • Contribute to all phases of design, from initial concept, construction documentation, and construction administration.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, balancing creative vision with practical considerations such as budget, timeline, and constructability.
  • Engage directly with clients, stakeholders, and community members to present design ideas, gather feedback, and build consensus.
  • Conduct site analysis and research to inform design decisions, including ecological, cultural, and technical aspects.
Over time you will
  • Mentor junior and mid-level designers, providing guidance, feedback, and fostering professional growth.
  • Contribute significantly to the design direction of projects of varying complexity and scale.
  • Promote a collaborative and innovative team environment, encouraging design excellence.
  • Identify and create training resources for staff to continually elevate and innovate through design at Fletcher Studio.
Qualifications

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in a professional landscape architecture setting, with a strong portfolio showcasing design leadership on built projects.
  • Licensed Landscape Architect or actively pursuing licensure.

  • Excellent 3D and 2D design skills with proficiency in AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage project teams, ensuring high-quality design outcomes and adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in client presentations and community engagement.
