Job SummaryAn opportunity to join an established cohesive team of Radiologists supporting clinicians and delivering acute and elective imaging in both specialist areas and in general radiology. The role is a replacement post to support paediatric and gynaecological imaging. It will complement the existing expertise within the department and manage expanding demands for imaging from the Emergency department, Cancer services, and the general diagnostic workload.
Mainduties of the job
- Vetting and reporting; sub‑specialty MDT preparation/attendance; duty sessions (hot reporting, CT/MRI and emergency imaging); and on‑call.
- Agree and review an annual job plan, including a minimum 1.5 full‑time equivalent (FTE) with the remainder in direct clinical care.
- Support remote working within the Trust and EMRAD Consortium where capacity allows.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Business Unit (CBU) management team to deliver efficient, best‑practice services with appropriate governance.
- Participate in weekday and weekend on‑call rotations (currently 1 in 12, 5 pm‑8 pm weekdays and 10 am‑4 pm weekends).
- Provide cross‑cover for Consultant colleagues during annual leave, attend weekly MDTs and departmental meetings, and give timely advice to GPs and hospital clinicians during duty.
- Engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching/supervision, audit and research activities as required.
We undertake in excess of 240,000 examinations per year. The directorate’s main x‑ray department offers the usual range of examinations and modern equipment. The main department boasts DR, CR, a DR interventional suite, five MRI scanners, four CT scanners, one gamma camera, and dedicated obstetric and general ultrasound departments. The Trust is the county centre for PPCI and has three cardiac cath labs.
The Trust currently has a GE PACS and is part of the EMRAD Consortium.
The successful candidate must hold FRCR or equivalent and be fully registered with the GMC and either be on or within six months of entry onto the Specialist Register on the date of interview.

Qualifications and Experience- Extensive experience in general radiology, including plain film interpretation, ultrasound, CT, fluoroscopy, and MRI.
- Competency in high‑volume reporting and reporting for MDT meetings.
- Competency in sub‑specialty of interest (paediatric and gynaecological imaging).
- Basic Medical Qualification (MB ChB/MBBS or equivalent).
- FRCR or equivalent.
- Certificate of Specialist Training in Radiology (or be within six months of its award at the time of the Advisory Appointment Committee).
- At least two years of working within radiology in NHS.
- Evidence of completion of a recognised training programme offering broad radiological experience.
- Sub‑specialty training and working experience in NHS.
- Additional undergraduate or postgraduate qualification.
- Experience of teaching in NHS.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Awareness of budgeting management and resource utilisation.
