Join Our Team as a Locum Physician in Palliative Medicine Traverse City, MI

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide inpatient and outpatient palliative care consultation and management.
• Oversee home-based hospice care services, ensuring comprehensive support.
• Manage a diverse caseload with an average of 12-18 inpatient consults per day.
• Cover both inpatient and outpatient settings with physician oversight.
• Participate in after-hours call coverage, averaging approximately 11 calls/pages during night shifts.
• Utilize Cerner EMR system for documentation and patient management.
• Work a 24-hour shift schedule on a 7-on, 7-off basis, beginning Tuesday at 8 AM.

Required Skills:

• Board Certification or Eligibility in Palliative Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, or a related specialty.
• Active medical license in Michigan or eligibility to obtain one.
• Proven ability to manage complex patient needs with compassion and professionalism.
• Strong communication and coordination skills within multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with inpatient, outpatient, and home hospice settings.
• Proficiency in EMR systems, preferably Cerner.

Nice to Have

Skills:

• Previous experience in a locum or temporary physician role.
• Knowledge of hospice care regulations and standards.
• Additional certifications in pain management or quality improvement initiatives.
• Bilingual abilities to serve diverse patient populations.

Preferred

Education and Experience:

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of residency training in relevant fields.
• At least 2 years of post-residency clinical experience in palliative or hospice medicine.

Other Requirements:

• Availability to begin on January 3, 2026.
• Willingness to work 24-hour shifts on a 7-on, 7-off schedule.
• Certifications in ACLS or BLS preferred.
• Travel reimbursements and licensing fee coverage when applicable.
