Elevate patient care by providing compassionate, specialized palliative medicine services in the scenic Traverse City area. This challenging and rewarding role offers you the flexibility to make a meaningful impact while working with a dedicated multidisciplinary team. Step into a position that combines clinical expertise with community-focused care, enhancing quality of life for patients facing serious illnesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide inpatient and outpatient palliative care consultation and management.
- Oversee home-based hospice care services, ensuring comprehensive support.
- Manage a diverse caseload with an average of 12-18 inpatient consults per day.
- Cover both inpatient and outpatient settings with physician oversight.
- Participate in after-hours call coverage, averaging approximately 11 calls/pages during night shifts.
- Utilize Cerner EMR system for documentation and patient management.
- Work a 24-hour shift schedule on a 7-on, 7-off basis, beginning Tuesday at 8 AM.
- Board Certification or Eligibility in Palliative Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, or a related specialty.
- Active medical license in Michigan or eligibility to obtain one.
- Proven ability to manage complex patient needs with compassion and professionalism.
- Strong communication and coordination skills within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with inpatient, outpatient, and home hospice settings.
- Proficiency in EMR systems, preferably Cerner.
Skills:
- Previous experience in a locum or temporary physician role.
- Knowledge of hospice care regulations and standards.
- Additional certifications in pain management or quality improvement initiatives.
- Bilingual abilities to serve diverse patient populations.
Education and Experience:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of residency training in relevant fields.
- At least 2 years of post-residency clinical experience in palliative or hospice medicine.
- Availability to begin on January 3, 2026.
- Willingness to work 24-hour shifts on a 7-on, 7-off schedule.
- Certifications in ACLS or BLS preferred.
- Travel reimbursements and licensing fee coverage when applicable.
