Student Health and Well‑Being (SHWB) Mental Health Services seeks a dedicated Staff Psychiatrist – Part Time to deliver innovative mental healthcare and support the well‑being of the university’s diverse student and learner community. The psychiatrist will provide initial psychiatric evaluations, medication management visits, and consultation, primarily based at the Homewood campus clinic in Baltimore with one day per week dedicated to our Washington, D.C. clinic.
Virtual and in‑person services are available at additional locations in Maryland and Washington, D.C.
- Create a warm and welcoming clinical environment that supports clients in pursuing personal, academic, and professional goals.
- Provide psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management visits, and follow‑ups.
- Assist with urgent referrals and support transitions to higher levels of care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment team members within SHWB and community providers to ensure continuity of care.
- Support clinical case management, connecting clients to appropriate resources and bridging them to care.
- Maintain current knowledge of literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence‑based intervention strategies.
- Provide didactic training and seminars to support the professional development of trainees and SHWB staff.
- Participate in case consultation, student risk management, peer chart reviews, and other department committees as directed.
- Serve as a clinical supervisor for residents or fellows and contribute to clinical training programs.
- Participate in MHS recruitment and hiring processes.
- Complete documentation and administrative duties in accordance with MHS policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including historically underrepresented groups, LGBTQ+ community, communities of color, neurodivergent individuals, and international students/learners.
- Clinical experience in a university outpatient setting with focus on student learner issues such as anxiety, mood disorders, autism spectrum, co‑occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD.
- Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.
- Credentialing through Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Psychiatry.
- 0.5‑0.6 FTE (19‑23 hrs) Monday‑Thursday 8:30 a.m.‑6 p.m.;
Friday 8:30 a.m.‑5 p.m.; after‑hours and weekend work may be required during the academic year. - One day of remote work is standard for full‑time staff; remote work for part‑time staff is at supervisor discretion.
- Starting date: as soon as possible.
- Required Attendance Employee – may be required to work during university closure for operational needs.
The Student Health & Well‑Being practice group supports well‑being, primary care, and mental health services for JHU students and learners across all nine schools. The division promotes innovative care delivery models and supports the development and sustainability of student well‑being.
Minimum Qualifications- M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school.
- All residency and post‑graduate training from accredited programs.
- Board Certified in Psychiatry or Board Eligible (certification within a year of hire if eligible).
- Unrestricted license to practice in Maryland and Washington, D.C.; complete continuing medical education credits as required.
- DEA certification and Controlled Substance Certification in Maryland and D.C.
- Credentialed at Johns Hopkins University before start date.
- Accredited fellowship completion and 3+ years of experience.
