Position Summary: The Medical Director of Neurology provides clinical leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the organization’s neurology program. This role combines direct patient care with administrative leadership, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality neurological services, alignment with best practices, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Medical Director will also play a key role in physician recruitment, mentorship, and program growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Care & Shifts

  • Provide expert neurological care via telehealth during 10 scheduled shifts per month.
  • Deliver timely and accurate neurological assessments, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations in collaboration with on‑site care teams.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and compliant documentation for all patient encounters.
  • Provide backup stroke coverage as needed for emergency cases.

Clinical Leadership & Quality Oversight

  • Oversee clinical quality within the neurology program, ensuring adherence to evidence‑based guidelines, organizational standards, and patient safety protocols.
  • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to optimize patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in peer review activities and support performance improvement plans where needed.
  • Monitor clinical metrics, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
  • Proctor and evaluate new neurology providers to ensure competency and alignment with organizational protocols.
  • Offer guidance and support to neurologists and advanced practice providers, fostering professional development and continuous learning.
  • Lead case discussions, clinical education sessions, and skills assessments.

Recruitment & Program Development

  • Partner with physician recruitment to identify, interview, and onboard qualified neurology providers.
  • Provide input on staffing models, scheduling, and service expansion opportunities.
  • Support the integration of new technologies, workflows, and clinical protocols into neurology services.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between neurology providers, leadership, and other service lines.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, strategic planning sessions, and cross‑departmental initiatives.
  • Represent the neurology service line in external forums, conferences, and industry networks as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Board‑Certification or Board‑Eligibility in Neurology.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain licensure in multiple states, as required.
  • Strong clinical judgment in managing acute neurological emergencies.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and virtual communication platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
  • Reliable high‑speed internet connection and appropriate remote work setup.
  • Excellent communication skills and proactive engagement with care teams.

Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Expertise in acute stroke care, including NIH Stroke Scale and tPA protocols.
  • Familiarity with tele neurology platforms and remote diagnostic tools.
  • Effective triaging and prioritization of consults in high‑acuity settings.
  • Strong documentation and case management skills.
  • Comfort with interpreting neuroimaging (CT/MRI) in the emergency setting.
  • Commitment to patient‑centered care and continuous clinical improvement.

Education:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
