We are recruiting General Practitioners to join our established Out of Hours (OOH) service, delivering high-quality urgent primary care within a clinically safe, well-supported environment.

Our service is designed around safe clinical practice, effective triage, and strong multidisciplinary teamwork enabling GPs to focus on delivering excellent patient care with the right systems and support in place.

Role Overview
  • Assess and manage urgent primary care presentations.

General Practitioner (GP) Out of Hours Service

Clinical Lead / Medical Director / OOH Service Manager

Role Overview

The Out of Hours GP provides high‑quality, safe, and effective urgent primary care to patients outside normal GP surgery opening times. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of urgent clinical presentations through telephone triage, remote consultation, face‑to‑face appointments, and home visits where required.

The GP works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver responsive, patient‑centred care while supporting NHS urgent care pathways and reducing unnecessary hospital admissions.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with urgent healthcare needs.
  • Conduct telephone triage and video consultations where appropriate.
  • Provide face‑to‑face consultations at designated OOH bases or treatment centres.
  • Undertake home visits for patients unable to attend clinical bases.
  • Prescribe medications safely and appropriately.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans aligned with best clinical practice.
  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.
  • Escalate patients appropriately to emergency or secondary care when necessary.

Service Delivery

  • Work effectively within OOH clinical systems and pathways.
  • Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Communicate consultation outcomes to registered GP practices where required.
  • Maintain continuity and safety of care across service handovers.
  • Support treat‑and‑complete models to optimise patient flow.

Multidisciplinary Working

  • Collaborate with nurses, paramedics, advanced practitioners, call handlers, and administrative teams.
  • Provide clinical advice and supervision when appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical discussions and case reviews.

Governance & Quality

  • Maintain compliance with NHS governance standards and clinical protocols.
