Job Summary
NUPAS is looking for dynamic, enthusiastic, and motivated Doctors to join our clinical team. This is an excellent opportunity to increase your knowledge and skills in Abortion Care, Sexual Health and Contraception provision in the UK.
Complete pre‑treatment assessment of patients requesting an abortion and post‑treatment care, including telemedicine. The role is part‑time: one 7.5‑hour session per week, with a Saturday shift each month replacing a weekday session in the same week.

Job Responsibilities- Complete pre‑treatment assessment, consultation and follow‑up as needed with patients requesting an abortion.
- Carry out medical assessment face‑to‑face or remote for abortion provision, contraceptive advice and provision, inclusive of long‑acting reversible contraception (LARC).
- Assess and support post‑abortion problems and complications.
- Contact patients by phone for additional medical information and review suitability for telemedicine.
- Document complication rates and potential risks associated with treatments in patient notes.
- Support nurses in assessment of post‑treatment problems and prescribe appropriate treatment.
- Review post‑treatment patient notes following appointments in clinics throughout NUPAS.
- For patients under 16, ensure sufficient understanding and valid informed consent.
- Complete regulatory documentation and prescriptions following assessment.
- Ascertain grounds for abortion and initiate appropriate referral measures when concerned about patient safety.
- Assess fitness for safe abortion and prescribe future contraception as needed.
- Identify and escalation of safeguarding concerns to senior colleagues.
- Undertake responsibilities in accordance with safe working practices (COSHH, PPE, infection control).
- Participate in and cooperate with medical audit activities and clinical governance arrangements.
- Update knowledge and skills through CPD, annual appraisal and participate in the revalidation process as per GMC regulations.
- Support a woman’s right to request an abortion in line with the Abortion Act.
- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the level and responsibilities of the post.
- Must be registered with GMC.
- Experience of Gynaecology in Foundation years or equivalent.
- Knowledge of clinical and legal aspects of abortion care in the UK.
- Clinical knowledge of contraception advice and provision, including LARC.
- Experience assessing women with unplanned pregnancy, assessing gestation and identifying medical conditions that may affect treatment.
- Good communication skills.
- Identify and escape any risk or safeguarding concerns to senior colleagues and actively seek to reduce or eliminate those concerns.
- Embrace safeguarding mechanisms and support staff, patients and supporters when safeguarding principles need to be applied.
- Must be registered with GMC and have experience of Gynaecology at least in Foundation years.
- Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (desirable).
- Member of a Royal College or Faculty (desirable).
- CoSRH or RCOG abortion skills modules (ACSM/ASM) (desirable).
Pay scheme: £49.82 an hour.
