Applications are invited for the Wessex interventional cardiology fellowship. The fellowship encompasses at least four appointments across the region in three trusts – Portsmouth (QAH), Southampton (UHS) and Bournemouth (UHD).

In general, all posts will carry training in interventional cardiology. All three centres have busy 24/7 primary PCI services across the Wessex region, covering East Sussex to West Dorset and parts of Wiltshire.

The successful candidate will receive advanced training in all aspects of percutaneous coronary intervention in both acute and stable patients. All have established CTO programmes and perform complex “CHIP” angioplasty. A candidate with suitable experience at UHS may also receive training in structural intervention within our TAVI and mitral programmes.

• Three positions available across the Wessex region – one at UHS, one at UHD and one at QAH.
• Training in both basic and complex PCI.
• Dedicated post at UHS offers experience in the planning and insertion of transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVI). Responsibilities include supporting the TAVI team, participating in the TAVI MDT process, assessing referrals and caring for ward patients.
• High‑quality training in all aspects of interventional cardiology, with exposure to IVUS, OCT and advanced intracoronary physiology.
• Opportunities to train in calcium modification techniques including rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, orbital and laser atherectomy, and coronary sinus reducer implantation.
• Weekly outpatient clinic for complex PCI patients and weekly angiography review sessions; preparation of the cardiac surgical MDT.

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
• GMC registration with a licence to practise
• Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement
• 24‑36 months as SHO in various GIM specialties leading to completion of CMT
• 24‑36 months as SpR in Cardiology
• Completion of Core Cardiology curriculum

• BSE accreditation
• Evidence of higher research training (PhD, MD or equivalent)
• Level 3 proficiency in diagnostic angiography

• Evidence of effective teamwork in multi‑professional settings
• Understanding of equality and diversity and its impact on patients, visitors and staff
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
• Excellent organisational skills including prioritisation and meeting deadlines
• Calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to rapidly changing circumstances
• Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
