This is an exciting 12‑month locum Consultant Gynae-oncologist position across the Directorate of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The role requires full surgical oncological cover, including diagnostics, major surgical procedures and robotic surgery, within a multi‑disciplinary team. The appointment may lead to a substantive post.
Main duties of the jobThe post-holder will provide full surgical Gynaecological Oncology coverage, including diagnostics and major surgical procedures such as robotic laparoscopic surgery for cancer patients. Duties are across both Royal Stoke and County Hospital Sites, 1:12 gynae on‑call rota, and a total of 9.949PAs per week. The consultant will maintain responsibility for their patient cohort, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and contribute to strategic planning and management of the Division and Trust.
Qualifications- Full GMC Registration
- CCT or equivalent
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry via CCT within 6 months of date of the AAC
- Completed RCOG Subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology or equivalent
- Recent experience in UK‑based hospitals in a Gynaecology oncology sub‑specialty post
- Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD, PhD, FRCS)
- BSCCP accreditation
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and within a team.
- Attendance at MDT meetings.
- Evidence of team leadership.
- Experience in research including recruitment to clinical trials.
- Willing to participate in audit programmes.
- Evidence of continuing research.
- Proficiency in all aspects of laparoscopic surgery relevant to gynaecological oncology, including laparoscopic Wertheim’s operation.
- Experience in radical and supra‑radical surgery for ovarian cancer, including upper abdominal peritoneal stripping.
- Evidence to qualify as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC.
- Proficiency in robotic procedures, including simple and radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy.
- Robotic proctor/trainer with certification.
- Experience in sentinel node sampling in vulval and endometrial cancer.
- Ability to work under pressure, and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work flexibly.
- Ability and means to meet the travel requirements of the post.
Visa eligibility notice:
The UK Home Office has imposed an emergency brake on specific visa routes. Skilled Worker visas cannot currently be issued to Afghan nationals.
