This post is appointed on a fixed-term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development. While the postholder will contribute to service delivery, the overarching purpose of the post is to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum

There is an excellent opportunity come available for a period of up to twelve months to work as a resident doctor at a senior level (Registrar) at UHS Cardiothoracic Surgery Department. This is to cover the secondment of a resident doctor.
The role offers an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled registrar to work as part of a busy cardiothoracic service with complex patients in both fields of surgery.
The job would involve working as a resident doctor in the department along with 19 other residents. The successful candidate would be covering all forms of adult and paediatric cardiac and adult thoracic surgery and would be first on call for ED as well as external and internal referrals.

Support and manage (as appropriate) patients' surgical pathway from initial outpatient appointment through to pre-operative assessments, preparation for surgery, operating with supervision, post-operative care on surgical wards and critical care units to discharge home and follow up.
Handle emergency and non-elective referrals by liaising with consultants and nursing teams to ensure rapid and appropriate plans are in place and actioned.
Participate in a resident or non-resident on-call registrar rota for acute cardiothoracic emergencies.
Be an proactive member of the wider MDT, engaging in audits, service developments and education

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONAppointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed fellow doctors and dentists. Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave.
