Post CCT Remote and Rural Anaesthesia Fellowship

Salary £115,331 - £153,247 per annum

plus Distant Island Allowance £1,461 per annum

40 hours per week

Fixed Term Post for 24 Months from October 2026

Western Isles Health board in collaboration with Public Services Delivery Scotland are offering an Educationally approved post CCT fellowship training in Anaesthesia delivery in the Remote and Rural setting. For a period of 12 months supported working, followed by a 12 month minimum working commitment this is a 24 month post.

During this Fellowship, the appointee will be supported in developing skills required to work in the remote and rural setting. This will include Paediatrics, Obstetrics, procedural sedation in isolated sites, Regional Anaesthesia, Critical Care stabilisation and transfer in collaboration with the Emergency Medical Retrieval Services, as well as the opportunity for significant involvement in Departmental managerial exposure and peri-operative medicine.

Although predominantly based at WIH in Stornoway, there will be ample supported opportunity to further areas of curriculum where individuals may feel further experience necessary. We would anticipate this may require mainland hospital working where that training may be best delivered. Supported, progressing to independent On-call experience will be expected during both years of Fellowship.

Application to the fellowship is open to any of the following:

• NTN holders in Anaesthesia within 3 months of expected CCT date
• CCT holders in Anaesthesia who have been in regular practise in Anaesthesia within the last 24 months, and are on the Specialist Register (UK) for Anaesthesia
• Trained specialists from outside the UK who have gained entry to the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia
