ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
NK Consultancy LLC is partnering with a rural hospital in Minnesota to find its Chief Medical Officer. This is a purely executive role with no direct patient care. It's a chance for a physician leader to shape the future of rural healthcare.
The schedule is designed to be flexible: onsite 1–2 days per week, with the remaining work done from a home office. For the right physician, this could serve as a meaningful second position alongside an existing role.
As CMO, you will be the organization's lead physician voice. You'll support the hospital's clinic and emergency department providers, partner with the executive team on business development, and help guide the hospital through its transition into a regional clinically integrated network.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- - Serve as the primary liaison between the medical staff, executive leadership, and Board on clinical matters
- - Support and lead clinic and ER providers, fostering a high-trust, engaged team culture
- - Establish consistent standards of care, reduce unnecessary clinical variation, and support evidence-based care pathways
- - Oversee quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
- - Partner with the executive team on business development, service expansion, and strategic initiatives
- - Provide physician leadership as the hospital joins a regional clinically integrated network, supporting collaboration on quality, data analytics, and value-based care readiness
- - Champion chronic disease management, preventive care, telehealth, and population health
- - Mentor current physicians and APPs and develop future physician leaders
- - Support provider recruitment, onboarding, and retention
- - Partner with leadership on regulatory, accreditation, and compliance requirements
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
- - MD or DO
- - Current, unrestricted Minnesota medical license (or eligibility to obtain)
- -Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine or other recognized specialty.
- - Demonstrated clinical leadership and a collaborative style with physicians, APPs, staff, and administration
- - Knowledge of quality improvement, patient safety, care coordination, and evidence-based care
- -Understanding of value-based care, population health, and evolving delivery models
- - Comfort using data to drive clinical improvement
- - Strong communication skills and a track record of building trust and engagement
Preferred:
- - Physician leadership, medical staff leadership, or clinical integration experience
- - Rural healthcare experience
- - Experience with population health, telehealth, or innovative care models
- - Business development or strategic planning experience
- - Experience mentoring physicians or APPs
WHY THIS ROLE
- - Executive physician leadership with no clinical call or patient schedule
- - Hybrid flexibility: onsite just 1–2 days per week
- - Can complement an existing practice or role
- - Report directly to the CEO and shape strategy at the executive level
- - Lead a rural hospital's entry into regional, value-based collaboration
- - Build a leadership legacy through mentorship
