Overview

The Department of Geoscience at the University of Wisconsin–Madison seeks applicants at the Assistant Professor level with exceptional potential for impactful research addressing problems related to the Energy Transition. The search focuses on expertise in critical minerals, economic geology, and/or geological decarbonization. Candidates who employ geophysical, computational, or field-based methods are encouraged to apply. This position is part of UW–Madison’s RISE-Earth initiative, which strengthens the university’s ability to address environmental challenges and translate discoveries into tangible benefits at home in Wisconsin and beyond.

The successful candidate will advance the educational mission of the Department of Geoscience and the College of Letters & Science, valuing evidence-based and student-centered teaching and undergraduate mentoring, while contributing to an inclusive environment for faculty, staff, students, and the broader community.

The Department of Geoscience at UW–Madison has a tradition of excellence in research and teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, contribute to curriculum updates and innovations to educate a diverse student body, mentor graduate students, supervise research, and develop an extramurally funded research program with industry connections; participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts within the College of Letters & Science and with other departments, schools, and colleges; advance the college’s commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, and service.
