Washington Connections Academy (WACA) is a tuition-free, virtual public school serving students in grades K-12 statewide. WACA has two schools under its umbrella of the shared-services model. It operates in partnerships with the Mary M. Knight School District and Goldendale School District and is under contract with Connections Academy to provide its educational program and other services. Both Washington Connections Academy schools are accredited by Cognia and were recognized as Cognia Schools of Distinction in 2022.

Position Summary:

This remote, full‑time position is open to applicants in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. Certified Middle School English Language Arts Teachers will manage instructional programs and consult regularly with caretakers, Learning Coaches, and students via telephone, Internet, and curriculum tools to ensure successful completion of each student's instructional program.

The Middle School English Language Arts Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

  • Hosting a homeroom of students, acting as a role model and mentor throughout the school year, including weekly homeroom Live Lessons; supporting students and families through school‑year cycle tasks such as Welcome Calls and monthly WSLP Progress Checks; encouraging student engagement; welcoming new students; frequently checking in on academics and graduation/promotion status; and supporting students and families with alternate lessons, assessments, and strategies.
  • Supplementing and enhancing asynchronous content by delivering synchronous Live Lessons, office hours, and support videos each week; operating within the multi‑tiered support model to provide differentiated instruction; grading all assignments within 8 days; reviewing and revising lessons; and maintaining knowledge of the K‑8 curriculum.
  • Consulting with instructional staff and learning specialists to develop enrichment activities and modifications for students.
  • Communicating regularly with caretakers, students, and staff via computer and telephone; scheduling contacts; logging all contacts within 24 hours; and meeting weekly contact requirements.
  • Collaborating with school staff to coordinate social activities and field trips; maintaining virtual school community; proctoring state and statewide tests; participating in recruitment and marketing events.
