Method to assess remote work:
Supervisor will be in weekly communication with the student to monitor that the work is being completed. Supervisor will track completed tasks. See below outcomes.
- Teaching Assistant for Ornithology (ES 5150).
- Attend class sessions and help answer questions and provide support to small groups of students during field classes and in-class labs (4 hrs/wk).
- Arrange time outside of class to be available to students working on class assignments and the final project, and to provide tutoring in content and skills to students who need additional support (2 hrs/wk).
- Assistant may also help with grading assignments (2 hrs/wk), assist with preparing for field classes (1 hr/wk), and lead some optional bird walks outside of class time (1 hr/wk). Content and skills will be both bird-related and more general, such as experimental design and implementation, data management, and scientific report writing and presentation.
- Work will occur during class time as well as outside of class as arranged with individuals or groups of students.
- Ideally, applicants will have taken Ornithology before at AUNE or at another university. However, previous experience outside of an ornithology class may suffice. Applicants should have:
• A strong background in ornithology and bird identification in New England
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability and interest in working with other graduate students to build knowledge and skills
• Federal work study funds during the fall semester 2025
• Ability to attend class 8-11 am Fridays, and 6 am - 12 pm on 9/27 and 10/3
