Compensation Range: $17.00 – $22.10 per hour.
Responsibilities: The PATHS Therapeutic After School Program is a clinical intervention designed to build social skills and emotional identity and development with children ages 6‑11 from Rochester, many with histories of complex trauma and behavioral challenges. Counselors will work directly with the children, developing and implementing the Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) skills curriculum and resolving any needs that arise.
The program will run during Spring 2026, starting with training. Training required for program participation will be held on:
- Monday 1/26, Wednesday 1/28
- Monday 2/2, Wednesday 2/4 & Thursday 2/5
All training days run 3:30 pm–8:00 pm. Program will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2/9/2026 to 5/6/2026. The children are present from 4:15 pm to 6:15 pm; staff required during that time plus additional time before and after scheduled program times (sometimes as early as 2:30 pm and as late as 7:30 pm). Counselors must be flexible and may have some remote work on non‑program days.
Counselors must be able to commit to all days of training and program.
Essential Functions- Work collaboratively with co‑counselors to plan and implement classroom lessons utilizing the PATHS Curriculum for a classroom of six assigned children. Manage behaviors, use behavior management and reward systems to encourage positive social‑emotional habits and coping skills, and work with program supervisors to support crisis intervention events and monitor any clinical concerns for program children.
- Participate in group and individual supervision meetings with direct supervisors to problem‑solve classroom management, behavioral, and co‑counseling challenges.
- Monitor bus transportation to support safe and efficient transportation of children to and from program, communicate with assistant program coordinator and Mt. Hope Family Center bus drivers to ensure adherence to bus rules and regulations (seat belt wearing, appropriate volume, etc.).
- Participate in group lesson planning and preparation—meet one time per week face‑to‑face with co‑counselors to plan weekly lessons and classroom structure, including preparation of any activity materials needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High‑school diploma or GED.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Position will require OCFS and UR Compliance Office background clearance for work with minors.
