Job Summary

This position, scheduled to begin August 2026, seeks a dynamic and experienced faculty member to lead and instruct in the Fire Science program, serving as both a full‑time instructor and Program Director for the college’s Fire Science Program and the Phoenix Fire Academy. The role focuses on delivering comprehensive emergency medical education and fire science courses, collaborating with the EMT and Paramedic departments, and providing leadership in faculty and program oversight.

Functions
  • Instruction & Student Engagement:
    Supervise and instruct a diverse student population using classroom, lab, clinical, field internship, online, hybrid, and accelerated formats; employ learning‑centered strategies to engage students and promote success, retention, and achievement.

  • Innovative Teaching & Curriculum Development:
    Develop instructional materials, curricula, and course content; prepare syllabi, outlines, and assessment tools; evaluate student progress; maintain records; incorporate technology and alternative delivery methods; actively participate in the Fire Science Instructional Council.

  • Faculty & Program Oversight:
    Hire, supervise, and evaluate adjunct faculty, skills instructors, and staff; ensure compliance with accreditation standards; track student performance and certifications; participate in assessment and program review processes.

  • Student Support & Advising:
    Maintain office hours, tutor, and advise students academically, professionally, and personally; engage students outside the classroom through activities, clubs, and interdisciplinary initiatives; support experiential learning opportunities.

  • Industry & Community

    Collaboration:

    Build relationships with businesses, industry, and community partners, fostering workforce readiness; develop articulation agreements with high schools and universities; promote seamless transfer pathways; partner with allied health programs and emergency medical services.

  • Professional Development & Institutional Engagement:
    Stay current with trends, research, and best practices in fire science and emergency medical services; attend conferences, workshops, and continuing education; participate in college and district activities and committee work.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Credential:
    Master’s degree in the teaching field, or a master’s in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours, or a bachelor’s degree with three years of work experience in the field, or an associate’s degree with 64 semester hours and five years of work experience, or five years of work experience in the field.
Desired Qualifications
  • A. Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • B. Recent experience teaching fire science (FSC), EMT, and advanced EMT courses; community college experience preferred.
  • C. Current AHA instructor holding CPR/BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS certifications (preferred).
  • D. Current NAEMT instructor holding PHTLS, AMLS, and/or TECC certifications (preferred).
  • E. Recent experience as a firefighter paramedic in clinical and/or prehospital settings.
  • F. Evidence of working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • G. Current Fire Instructor I and Fire Instructor II certifications.
Special Working Conditions
  • Valid State of Arizona Class D driver’s license or equivalent.
  • MCCCD does not sponsor work visas.
  • Travel or assignment to all MCCCD locations, clinical and field sites.
  • Possible travel to the Black Mountain campus.
  • On‑campus work with potential remote work per policy.
  • Availability for evenings, weekends, rotating shifts.
  • Mandatory EMT or CDC certification and health requirements per MCCCD Allied Health Policies.
  • Potential exposure to infectious disease, blood borne pathogens, and carcinogens.
  • Work in full turnout gear with SCBA as required.
  • Travel to campus during selection at candidate’s expense.
