Position: Lead Librarian for Acquisitions

Overview

Lead Librarian for Acquisitions at Syracuse University Libraries.

Location:

Syracuse, NY. This on‑campus position requires regular in‑person presence to support students and collaborate with colleagues. Remote work arrangements are limited in accordance with University policy.

Responsibilities
  • Acquisitions (40%):
    Direct operations of the acquisitions unit; manage bargaining unit library technicians; acquire resources in all formats and models; manage renewal process for continuations to prevent expiration; collaborate with the Department of Research and Scholarship to implement collection decisions; resolve issues related to publisher mergers and acquisitions; process all license agreements; communicate between the collections team, procurement office and vendors; review and approve invoices;

    contribute to yearly spend planning for the collections budget.
  • Electronic Resources (25%):
    Acquire electronic resources, including licensing processing and activation; coordinate workflows with Lead Librarian for Electronic Resources and Lead Librarian for Cataloging.
  • Resource Support (20%):
    Serve as a resource for department staff and others in SU Libraries for acquisitions questions related to all materials.
  • Service and Professional Development (5%):
    Maintain awareness of best practices; participate in interdisciplinary library teams; contribute to university and library initiatives; engage in activities that advance the Libraries, University, and library profession.
  • Process Improvements (5%):
    Monitor national trends and best practices in acquisitions for an academic library and lead continual process improvements, including workflow changes and new tools/technology adoption.
  • Other duties as assigned (5%).
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in library or information science (ALA‑accredited), or equivalent education/experience.
  • Three (3) plus years of acquisitions experience, preferably in an academic library.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Alma and Primo VE.
  • Experience reviewing license agreements.
  • Supervisory experience in an academic library or bargaining unit context.
Librarian Rank And Compensation

This position will be appointed at the Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian rank based on the successful candidate’s qualifications. Final salary will be commensurate with experience and rank. See rank criteria requirements in the provided document.
