Join Vermont State University as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop high‑quality academic content for its online B.A. in Elementary Education with Special Education program. This role involves creating and revising original course materials in collaboration with instructional designers, following established course development processes, and ensuring alignment with social justice and inclusion principles.
Program OverviewVermont State University’s Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with Special Education prepares students for dual licensure (K‑6 and K‑8). The program emphasizes research‑based practices, action research, collaboration, social justice, inclusivity, and democracy.
Opportunity DescriptionAs an SME, you will:
- Create and revise course content for the online B.A. in Elementary Education with Special Education.
- Collaborate with instructional designers to build engaging, standards‑aligned online courses.
- Follow VTSU Online’s course development process, including templates, milestones and quality reviews.
- Ensure course materials reflect social justice, action research, diversity, equity, inclusion and advocacy.
Compensation per course is $4,100.00.
Course: EDU‑3440 – Advocacy and Ethics in EducationThis course examines teaching as a sociopolitical endeavour, focusing on professional, ethical and legal contexts. Students develop collaborative fieldwork projects to advocate for change and create part III of the Vermont Licensure Portfolio.
Minimum Qualifications- Terminal degree in Education, Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction or a closely related field.
- Current, valid Vermont Level I or higher Professional Educator’s License (or principal’s license with relevant endorsement).
- Familiarity with Vermont educator licensure requirements.
- At least three years of full‑time PK‑8 teaching experience, preferably in Vermont public schools.
- Experience supporting students with disabilities in inclusive settings (IEP, differentiated instruction, IDEA, Section 504).
- Successful criminal background check and any Vermont‑required checks.
- Strong collaboration and professional communication skills; ability to work within VTSU Online’s development process.
- Knowledge of online learning environments, curriculum development and adult learning theory is a strong asset.
- Organisational skills and ability to meet established timelines, quality standards and deadlines.
- Effective remote collaboration with instructional designers, articulating ideas, documenting decisions and adapting to feedback.
