Overview
United for Literacy (formally known as Frontier College) is a national literacy organization operating programs across Canada. We recruit and train volunteer tutors to assist children, youth, and adults to acquire essential literacy and numeracy skills, and partner with community organizations to help them establish and deliver literacy programs that meet local needs. As Canada's original literacy organization, United for Literacy has recruited dedicated volunteers since 1899 and welcomes your involvement in continuing this work.

Volunteer Opportunity
Responsibilities- Support our online homework club and 1-to-1 tutor program as a Volunteer Tutor.
- Work online through the Zoom platform, with support from a literacy intern.
- Tutor a small group of children (ages 6–17) in breakout rooms or provide 1-on-1 tutoring.
- Complete duties remotely from any location in Manitoba and participate in the program online.
- Participate in training and ongoing support; hours can be logged and a reference can be provided.
- Fluent in the French language.
- Desire to help others improve their literacy.
- Reliable for at least 1 hour of volunteering per week; days/times are flexible.
- Comfortable working with learners from diverse backgrounds and literacy levels.
- Enthusiastic, patient, flexible, creative, and understanding.
- Willing to make a difference in the community and in others’ lives.
- Comfortable navigating Zoom and tutoring in a virtual setting.
- Literacy tutoring skills.
- Experience supporting learners from various backgrounds and literacy levels, including EAL learners and individuals with learning disabilities.
- Experience assisting children and youth with formative language abilities.
- Ideal for those studying education or seeking meaningful volunteer experience to add to a resume.
- Age ranges: 12 and under, 13–15, 16–17, 18–30, 31–54, 55+.
- Time Commitment:
Daytime, Evening, Weekend; flexible times available. - Location:
Winnipeg (remote-friendly). - Criminal record check required:

No. - Open to candidates fulfilling school volunteer hours and mobility device users; suitable for community service requirements;
French-speaking / bilingual (French and English).
