Overview
A day in the life of an Ascent Qualified Mission Aircrew Instructor, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (QMAI ISR). You will join Ascent during the implementation of the Future ISTAR Rear Crew Training System (FIRCTS). Initially you will be seconded to the Development and Test Team (DTT) where you will use your specialist knowledge to develop advanced courseware, bespoke training solutions utilizing advanced training equipment and high-fidelity mission simulator exercises.
During this period you will build relationships with stakeholders in FIRCTS including the existing cadre of pilots and instructors at 750 Naval Air Squadron (750
NAS) at RNAS Culdrose and similarly with 45 Squadron and Ascent colleagues at RAF Cranwell. You will be a key part of the implementation and transition to FIRCTS; using your knowledge of and qualification on the new mission system and sensors to convert the existing team to the new aircraft, ground-based training equipment (GBTE) and courseware. Following the transition, you will become a member of the FIRCTS instructor cadre and train ab initio trainees at 750 NAS, RNAS Culdrose as an air instructor.
You may travel to sites, work from home, and maintain regular contact with 750 NAS and 45 Sqn, developing and testing courseware, instructor and trainee guides, and learning the new equipment and training system.
- Initially become a member of the Training Design Team.
- Form the leading edge of the technical advice to the Combined Testing Team.
- Work in partnership with the customer, Aircrew Training Specialists, the Media and Courseware team and other stakeholders to ensure that the FIRCTS programme is successful.
- Lead the implementation and conversion to the new system.
You will already have a breadth of instructional and operational experience, having been involved in the training of RAF or RN Mission Aircrew (MA) previously. You will thrive when working with stakeholders across a multitude of areas. In the DTT you will ensure your experience and knowledge is used to shape the future of ISR mission aircrew training. You will love working in an environment where effective training and trainee experience is at the forefront, being able to shape and influence a positive solution, implement it and then be part of its future.
You will understand the importance of working successfully in pressured situations, have strong communication skills, and be able to confidently scrutinize the needs of the customer to achieve the best outcome. You will consistently produce high-quality work to deadlines.
- Experience in operation of airborne mission systems and sensors.
- Experience in the delivery of flying training as a Qualified Instructor.
- Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Strong vision for the work that is to be produced and ability to deliver that work.
- Demonstrated courage, problem solving and decision-making.
- Extensive knowledge in the application and use of DSAT techniques.
- Appropriate degree or equivalent professional qualification/experience.
