Faculty Buildings and Facilities Coordinator

Join the University of Surrey as the Faculty Buildings and Facilities Coordinator.

About the Faculty

The Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Sciences (FABSS) is home to over 700 staff and more than 7,000 students across three schools – the Surrey Business School, the School of Arts, Humanities and Creative Industries, and the School of Social Sciences – distributed across eleven buildings on the University’s Stag Hill campus. It is a vibrant, multicultural community delivering research and student events year‑round, including renowned Guildford School of Acting productions and Music and Media concerts.

Opportunity

Supported by the Operations and Facilities Manager, the Buildings and Facilities Coordinator will ensure that Faculty premises meet the high standards set by the University, including Health and Safety provision. Your key focus will be to maintain safe and suitable spaces for teaching, research, performances, academic conferences, Open Days and Applicant Days, directly influencing student experience, recruitment, and staff wellbeing.

You’ll combine day‑to‑day operational excellence with strategic planning, ensuring our spaces are safe, compliant, welcoming, and resilient and that they meet the demands of a busy academic calendar. Very occasional evening, early morning, and weekend work may be required to support peak activity and high‑profile events.

What you’ll lead and deliver
  • Coordinate building works and maintenance, owning work orders, tracking progress, and driving timely resolution in partnership with Estates maintenance, porters, and cleaning services.
  • Visible Health and Safety leadership, conducting checks, championing safe systems, and enabling activities to meet the University’s standards across teaching, research, and public‑facing events.
  • Ensure event readiness across eleven buildings, anticipating operational needs for conferences, theatre productions, and concerts so that spaces are functional, compliant, and welcoming for participants and visitors.
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication, acting as the first point of contact for academic, professional services, and technical teams; translating requirements into actionable plans and keeping colleagues updated.
  • Continuous improvement, spotting patterns, improving processes, optimising use of space and resources to enhance student experience and staff productivity across a high‑footfall estate.
About You

You are organised, agile, and thrive in a busy university environment with shifting priorities. A confident communicator, you take initiative and build strong working relationships with Estates, technical teams, academic disciplines, and frontline services. You bring a customer‑service mindset, understand the needs of colleagues, students, and visitors, and have a keen eye for detail that ensures our buildings consistently meet high expectations.

What We Offer
  • Generous annual leave
  • Excellent development opportunities
  • Pension scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Discounted membership to Surrey Sports Park
  • On‑site nursery
  • Blended working policy that allows staff to work from home up to two days per week, with some flexibility around start and finish times
  • Opportunities to contribute to sustainability projects, space planning initiatives, and strategic developments that shape the future of our campus
