The Chief Examiner will ensure question papers are prepared ahead of our dated exam series and are ready for candidates at the required standard—error free and high quality. They will support a team of markers during standardisation activities, sampling, and provide ongoing support during marking. They will also support setting grade boundaries for each examination series, provide guidance on occasional technical queries throughout the year, and support preparation of task‑based synoptic assignments.

The Chief Examiner should have strong industry experience and a passion for supporting learners in this important step of their journey, with a commitment to quality and high standards. Experience in writing and reviewing question papers is welcomed but not necessary.

They will also provide key technical advice and guidance to support assessment development and delivery across the year, when required.

Key timelines for each of the key activities the Chief Examiner is involved in are outlined below:

  • Assessment production (dated entry question papers – June Exam Series: June–July; November Exam Series: November–December)
  • Standardisation and marking window (July–mid August; December–January)
  • Awarding / standard setting windows (ongoing throughout the year outside of key marking and awarding windows)

Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Successful applicants may be asked to carry out a short task, attend a telephone interview and/or attend training as part of the second stage of recruitment before being confirmed in role.

When completing your application, it is essential you read the person specification fully and map your application to show where you meet the requirements. If you would like to be considered for one paper in particular, please specify this within your application. Applications that do not demonstrate meeting the person specification may be declined or delayed.
