Job DescriptionThe remote Alternative High School Special Education Teacher is a state‑certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. The teacher must provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on each student’s individualized needs defined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP). The teacher works actively with students and parents to advance learning and is responsible for compliance documents required for students with special needs.
Responsibilities- Ensure all special education and related services are provided as determined by the IEP team.
- Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure students receive appropriate therapies.
- Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other state‑specific required documentation.
- Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings such as annual IEP meetings.
- Use provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
- Make modifications and accommodations to Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
- Ensure inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom.
- Collect data and work samples to monitor progress toward IEP goals.
- Document all contact with parents and interventions with students.
- Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed.
- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
- Commit to personalizing learning for all students.
- Demonstrate belief in all students’ ability to succeed and meet high expectations.
- Maintain grade book ensuring academic integrity, placement decisions, and alert administrators to performance concerns.
- Prepare students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and communicate in a timely manner.
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment.
- Travel up to 20% of the time for face‑to‑face professional development, student testing, or as required by the school.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Active state special education teaching license.
- Six (6) months of student teaching experience.
- Ability to clear required background checks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data.
- Receptive to receiving coaching from administrators.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
- Rapid learning and adaptation to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick‑and‑mortar environment.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
- Salary range: $48,000 – $52,000 plus performance‑based bonus eligibility.
- Benefits include health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid time off.
- The position is virtual.
- Requires ability to work independently, 40+ hours per week, typical 9‑5 or 8‑4 schedule.
