Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as Writing Mentor to pre-nursing, nursing and graduate RAIN Program students
- Develop rapport with RAIN program students to build the trusting relationship essential to the mentor role
- Provide an orientation and overview to new RAIN students each semester regarding Writing Mentor assistance
- Create tutorial hand-outs and supplemental instructional materials
- Assist students with organizing their course schedules/syllabi evaluating for Writing Mentor assistance
- Set up preparation sessions for assistance with written assignments, presentations, resumes, scholarship applications, etc.
- Assist students with developing strategies to improve their scholarly writing skills including assessing papers for adherence to theme, organization, grammar and sentence structure; teach APA format; instruct on accessing electronic library resources and conducting internet searches
- Compiling, designing and editing the RAIN program newsletter and other publications/media
- Create newsletter each semester
- Photograph RAIN program activities for newsletter and social media
- Ensure accurate reporting and data collection for the RAIN Program
- Assist with planning, developing, implementing and evaluating program goals and objectives as outlined in grant guidelines
- Attend program staff meetings, CNPD activities, orientation sessions and events, and assist with program activities, including development of program materials
- Assist in planning and implementing the No Excuses Orientation and other academic support sessions
- Assist in reporting requirements for program reports
- Represent the RAIN program professionally and respectfully
- Organizational/prioritization skills
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Student oriented
- Detail oriented
- Bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field
- Demonstrated basic software knowledge, specifically with Microsoft Office products
- Experience in a higher education setting
- Demonstrated excellent writing and English language skills
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

- Master’s degree in a communications-related field
- Five+ years successful work experience with populations from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds, American Indian students
- Working knowledge of American Indian culture and sociological and psychosocial behavior
