About the Position

Villanova University’s Falvey Library seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and collaborative theology librarian for an opening as Managing Librarian for Liaison Services. Reporting to the Director of Research Services and Scholarly Engagement (RSSE), the Managing Librarian for Liaison Services supervises liaison librarians in the humanities and social sciences, guides their professional growth in support of departmental operations and fosters a working environment that is inclusive, respectful, collegial, and conducive to learning and productivity.

The Managing Librarian for Liaison Services serves as the library’s expert on research, learning culture, and information practices in the field of theology. They will build and maintain collaborative relationships with their constituents, select, assess, and deselect assigned subject collections to support research and curricular needs, and advocate for their constituents’ needs. They will teach research skills through instruction and consultations and the design of educational resources.

The successful candidate will lead and manage general research support services in coordination with the Director of RSSE to ensure their effectiveness at best meeting the needs of the Library’s constituents.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution, or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in research support, information literacy instruction and resource selection in an academic library or equivalent experience in assigned area.
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving and working across organizational boundaries in service of user needs
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to present information and ideas clearly and concisely
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, staff at all levels of the campus hierarchy, a diverse community of faculty and students, and external partners
  • Serious commitment to excellence, quality, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, exercise flexibility in meeting objectives, effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adjust as circumstances change
  • In-depth knowledge of the research needs and information sources in assigned discipline(s)
  • Demonstrated familiarity with general research services models in academic libraries
  • In-depth knowledge of teaching principles and practices relevant to effective information literacy instruction
  • Clear understanding of discipline-specific research and scholarly communication practices
  • Ability to work with a wide and changing variety of software applications, including content management systems, integrated library systems, patron-oriented communication and scheduling software, commercially available databases, presentation software, etc.
