Position Overview

This position will work on a statewide professional development training grant focused on programs for infants/toddlers with disabilities and their families. It is part of a staff of four professionals and one support staff and will have primary responsibility for project activities related to services under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Successful applicants will serve as a trainer/technical assistance provider, analyzing needs‑assessment data and identifying technical assistance needs;

developing and delivering in‑service training; contributing to and disseminating a quarterly project newsletter; preparing publishable manuscripts; and traveling for meetings to represent the project or work with Part C programs in Kansas.

It is a full‑time position with full benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, and holidays. The position is not subject to tenure or sabbatical leave.

Due to complex state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Candidates residing in California, Delaware, Idaho, or Minnesota may not be hired. Applicants from all other eligible states are invited to apply.

• Provide training and technical assistance based on analysis of needs assessment of professionals in the field of early intervention/Part C of IDEA (70%). Training takes various forms, including one‑to‑one consultation/training, small‑group training, large‑group training, and presentations at national and state conferences.
• Offer support and consultation regarding IDEA (federal law) and local program status and services to the Part C staff at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (10%). This includes IFSP training and review, Part C web‑based IFSP, program reports, determination levels, SSIP, and APR.
• Prepare and disseminate training materials and technical assistance packets to local infant/toddler programs and other audience groups (10%). Topics can include child assessment, family resources, service planning, intervention strategies, outcome evaluation, transition practices, and more.
• Represent the project at various meetings with state professional organizations, work committees, task forces, ad‑hoc committees, and state agencies, including the funding agency (5%).
• Perform analysis, collaborate, and contribute across project activities (5%).
• Analyze needs‑assessment data to determine training and technical assistance needs.
• Collaborate with project staff on workshop and conference presentation development.
• Collaborate on a public‑awareness program for the project.
• Contribute to the quarterly newsletter and the yearly project report to the funding agency.

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education or a closely related field.
• One year of experience developing written materials (e.g., policy/guidance documents, individual educational/family service plans, professional development plans).
• Two years of experience managing multiple tasks/projects.
• Three years of experience working with infants/toddlers with disabilities and their families.
• Experience with public speaking (conference presentations, training workshops).

• Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education or a closely related field.
• Education Specialist or Doctorate in Early Childhood Special Education or a related field.
• Teaching/training experience with adult learners (preservice or in‑service).
• Published articles, reports, or other written documents.
• Development of training materials in modular format suitable for online delivery.
• Experience working on a Macintosh computer.
• Experience working with three‑to‑five‑year‑old children with disabilities.
• Four years’ experience with infants/toddlers with disabilities and families.
• Experience with online meeting/training systems (e.g., Adobe Connect, Skype, Zoom).
• Certification as a trainer on specific topics/tools (e.g., AEPS, RBI, ASQ or ASQ‑SE).
