Job Overview

The High School ELA Teacher is a highly qualified, state‑certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. Teaching is primarily remote, but occasional travel is required for state testing, school functions, and other in‑person obligations. Salary is $43,000 with potential annual bonus.

Travel: Will consider applicants residing within 100 miles of the Ohio border who can meet travel requirements and obtain Ohio certification.

Responsibilities Instructional
  • Takes ownership of student academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in student‑achievement.
  • Prepares students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
  • Conducts live synchronous teaching—minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Supports objectives asynchronously, including composing emails, planning lessons, preparing learning plans, and using data to determine student needs.
  • Collaborates with colleagues on instruction, resources, interventions, and data related to OHVA student needs, and on professional development.
  • Adjusts course content under guidance from the school administrative team in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools.
  • Submits grades and required student work, ensuring academic honesty and integrity; maintains grade book; makes placement and promotion decisions by generating formal and informal reports.
Relationship Building
  • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families, and regularly communicates with students, learning coaches, and parents.
  • Supports learning coaches and parents with instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment.
  • Provides assistance with basic computer questions when requested.
  • Understands how diverse student and family characteristics impact required support.
  • Works collaboratively with other teachers to ensure all students progress successfully and that parents have a central point of contact.
  • Responds to students, parents, and colleagues in a timely manner.
Other Essential Functions
  • Organizes social and educational activities for students and families, including virtual clubs, outings, or other extracurricular activities as required.
  • Travels to testing sites to proctor state exams.
  • Complies with all school policies, procedures, and the Employee Manual.
  • Complies with all laws related to this position.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • Six (6) months of student teaching experience AND
  • Meet requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) in subject area under No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of state content standards.
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
  • Ability to problem‑solve independently and maintain a high level of organization.
  • Understanding of the interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and ability to uphold others’ deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently typically 40+ hours per week.
  • Maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday.
  • Travel as required (average once per month and approximately 10% of the time).
  • Access to reliable high‑speed internet.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Maintain certification/professional development hours and fluency in technology systems, programs, and curriculum.
  • Pass required background checks.
