The person in this position is responsible for the overall planning, management, and administration of the Head Start Education Content Area. This position supervises Center Coordinators and ensures effective operation of centers, hiring, supervising, and assists in the development of education program design based on the needs assessment.

Responsibilities
  • Updates the annual education plan in conjunction with the Disabilities & Mental Health Manager, Policy Council, parents and Center staff.
  • Plans the educational program with an interdisciplinary team of staff, parents and other content area specialists, and supervises the implementation of the planned activities in accordance with Performance Standards.
  • Represents MMCA’s Head Start program in appropriate community meetings and task forces.
  • Reviews and evaluates existing programs with teams of parents, Policy Council members and staff to ensure and enhance compliance with the Performance Standards and regulations.
  • Conducts classroom visits for the purpose of observing classroom activities and provides on-site consultation and technical assistance to Head Start teaching staff.
  • Confers regularly with teaching staff regarding behavioral or learning problems and recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning.
  • Gathers and maintains information for developing school readiness reports, in collaboration with the Mental Health & Disabilities Manager.
  • Oversee the implementation and operation of the Home-Based curriculum.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate in Early Childhood Education or an equivalent discipline required; master’s degree in early childhood education or related area preferred.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a related position; 5 years desired.
  • Experience in curriculum planning and teacher training.
  • Experience in employee supervision required.
  • Administrative experience and experience working with grants preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers and related software including word processing, spreadsheet applications required. Experience with child assessment databases preferred. Tracking and analysis of data for continuous program improvement required.
Other Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, adequate automobile insurance per state standards, and access to reliable transportation; compliance with MMCA policies pertaining to safe vehicle operation required.
  • Prior to starting employment, must be able to pass fingerprinted criminal background, child protective services, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record checks, as required by state and federal childcare licensing regulations, that indicate no previous record of involvement with child abuse or exploitation and no disqualifying criminal or motor vehicle record that would preclude working with children.

Rate of pay will be dependent upon experience and other qualifications.

This position is full-time 40 hours per week and benefits eligible.
