Overview
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) provides leadership, resources, support, and guidance to approximately 200,000 school district staff serving approximately 1.5 million students in public and non-public schools and 39,000 students in special education transition services. MDE also provides administrative support and supervision for the Michigan School for the Deaf and the Library of Michigan. MDE leads statewide education efforts in a local control state, implementing state and federal education laws, disbursing resources, licensing educators, developing state assessments and accountability systems, creating state standards, and coordinating school health and nutrition programs.
The department contributes to the Top 10 Strategic Education Plan and collaborates with partner education entities and stakeholders to improve public education. It provides information and feedback to public policy-makers, convenes educators on policy issues, and develops guidance on statutory changes at state and federal levels. PositionOffice of Partnership Districts is responsible for supporting all districts with low performing schools that have entered into partnership agreements with the state and with their local Intermediate School District and/or local partners. Major areas include:
- Developing supports for Partnership Districts
- Assisting with the development of the Partnership Agreement
- Reducing and/or removing barriers to success for each district/school
- Providing technical assistance when appropriate
- Identifying and connecting new partners with the district/school
- Partnership District Liaisons provide direct support and technical assistance to their assigned Partnership District

The Director of Partnership Districts provides leadership and oversight for the partnership model and initiatives for public schools and Michigan’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan. This position collaborates with MDE offices, the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI), and community partners to improve student achievement, teacher preparation, professional development, and the department’s strategic planning initiatives. Responsibilities include approval of partnership agreements with the goal of improving achievement levels at the lowest performing schools in Michigan, and ensuring alignment of major department goals and initiatives.
This position assists the chief deputy superintendent and the state superintendent in leading the development, achievement, and maintenance of the best possible Partnership Districts model services and implementation of Michigan’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan. The position directs, supervises, and coordinates activities to ensure alignment with federal and state statutory and regulatory requirements, State Board of Education and Department policies, and Michigan’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan.

- Master’s degree or higher in a field related to the position
Experience
- Two years of experience as a director or assistant director of an office or central office
- Five years of experience in teaching/leadership in an urban district, preferred
