Job Description

High School Spanish Teacher for Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA), operating within Stride K12’s personalized, online education platform.

Certificates and Licenses

High School Spanish Teaching Certification.

Residency Requirements

Position is remote and strongly prefers candidates resident in Virginia. May consider candidates in Washington, DC and Maryland. Must be able to attend in-person professional development, testing, and other school events.

Essential Functions Instructional
  • Takes ownership for students’ academic progress and attendance.
  • Prepares students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
  • Conducts live synchronous teaching – minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Provides asynchronous support: email communication, lesson planning, learning plans, data‑driven instruction.
  • Collaborates with teams and teacher trainers regarding instruction, resources, interventions, and data‑driven decision making.
  • Remains open to coaching and professional development.
  • Augments course content under guidance from principal and coach.
  • Submits grades and required student work; maintains grade book; generates formal and informal reports.
Relationship Building
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with families and communicates with students and learning coaches/parents.
  • Supports learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues.
  • Assists students and families with setting up and maintaining their learning environment.
  • Recognises the impact of diverse student and family characteristics on required support.
  • Collaborates with other teachers for coordinated student progress and task distribution.
  • Responds promptly to students, parents, and colleagues.
Other Essential Functions
  • Organises social and educational activities for students and families.
  • Travels to testing sites to proctor state exams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree AND
  • Six (6) months of student teaching experience AND
  • Ability to clear required background check(s)

  • Pedagogical knowledge of content and application of critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of state content standards and alignment with K12 curriculum.
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt for excellent student outcomes.
  • Problem‑solving independence and high organisation.
  • Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently (40+ hours per week).
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office during workday.
  • Ability to travel as required (approx. once per month, 20% of time).
  • Reliable high‑speed internet.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word;
    PowerPoint.
  • Rapid learning of new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems.
  • Experience with the proposed age group.
  • Experience supporting adults and children in technology use.
  • Experience working in a virtual environment.
  • Experience teaching online or in a brick‑and‑mortar environment.
  • Experience with Canvas and/or Power School.
  • Residence in Northern Virginia, Tidewater, Central Virginia, or Northern Neck Region.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary is determined by education, experience, qualifications, location, workload, travel, and market factors. Offers typical in the bottom half of the range. Benefits elections are available.
