Overview
Online K-8 Teacher Full-time Limited Term (Ends March 2026) at Washoe County School District.
The Online Virtual School Teacher creates a supportive online learning environment that promotes student growth and academic success. They deliver instruction, monitor progress, and collaborate with students and families to meet individual learning needs. This role requires strong teaching skills, comfort with technology, and the ability to adapt classroom best practices to a virtual setting. The primary focus is on academic core instruction, with comfort in supporting new users of technology.
Responsibilities- Teach material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned course schedule.
- Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process, including class discussions, assignments, projects, and research.
- Maintain online asynchronous communication (and synchronous if appropriate) with students to assist in meeting objectives, monitor completion of assignments, and coach projects.
- Provide regular, accurate, and timely student-specific feedback and support relative to performance.
- Communicate with students, parents, and staff to develop and update student learning plans and schedules, provide feedback on work, and suggest instructional approaches and strategies.
- Ensure assessment guidelines and regulations are followed.
- Assist with developing new curriculum or coursework in the virtual environment.
- Monitor student growth and achievement appropriate for age group, subject area, and program; provide interventions as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for each student and log all student and parent contact.
- Incorporate virtual methods to create and maintain a positive school community; integrate field trips where applicable.
- Review curriculum and adapt instructional approaches to increase understanding; utilize web 2.0 tools to enhance virtual learning experiences.
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills. A typical requirement includes a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Licenses/Certificates- A valid Nevada driver license with a driving record acceptable to the District (if required).
- Possession of a valid Nevada teaching license and appropriate endorsement in the subject area being taught.
- State licensure/endorsement in multiple subject areas or ability to obtain such licensure.
- Master’s Degree in related field.
- Online teaching experience and online teacher training certification.
- Home visit training.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills with understanding of online vs. face-to-face differences.
- Ability to develop and deliver assessments, projects, and assignments aligned to Nevada Academic Content Standards and measure learning progress.
- High level of adaptability and readiness to work with diverse student needs.
- Strong content expertise in K-12 education and effective teaching practices.
- Standards-based educational practice and online instruction principles.
- Collaborative teamwork, data-driven instruction, and use of technology to enhance learning.
- Experience with online learning environments and data systems; ability to integrate technology for engagement and assessment.
- Create and use a variety of formal and informal student assessments.
- Promote collaboration and manage blended learning programs and school events.
- Support new users of technology and apply tech tools to enhance instruction.
- Communicate clearly and professionally; meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
- Model ethical technology use and adapt instruction for diverse learners.
