Substitute Teacher - Elementary

We are accepting applications for the  school year. Certified Substitute Teachers will work from a secure, distraction‑free home office to support the learning program for students in Connections Academy schools across the country. Using telephone, internet, and various curriculum tools, Substitute Teachers will consult regularly with students, Learning Coaches, and school personnel to ensure successful completion of instructional programs. The Elementary Substitute Teacher will serve as teacher of record during short‑ or long‑term absences or vacancies, ranging from 2‑20 weeks, with an average assignment of 8‑12 weeks.

This is a part‑time position with no benefits.

When on assignment, you will be online and available to students, parents, and school staff Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone. Your duties include:

• Communicating with parents, students and other teachers to develop and update individualized learning plans, provide feedback on student work, and monitor completion of assignments.
• Completing all grading, generating progress reports, and conducting parent conferences in a timely manner, as instructed by the school.
• Supporting the instructional program through synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (Live Lessons).
• Assisting students and parents with alternate instructional strategies and daily assignments.
• Maintaining student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and student logs.
• Working with counselors and special educators to meet individual student needs and provide updates on student behaviors and classroom activities.
• Actively checking email when not on assignment to stay informed of upcoming assignments and Substitute Services updates.

Additionally:

• Meet monthly with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conferencing, whether on or off assignment.
• Complete required professional learning and maintain active certifications throughout the year.

• Highly qualified and certified to teach in any state (priority states: AZ, CO, FL, IA, MI, MN, MO, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, VA, WA, WY).
• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Maintain a dedicated, distraction‑free home working environment.
• Available Monday through Friday during assigned school hours (typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast‑paced, flexible environment with effective prioritization, self‑direction, and creativity.
• Understanding of IEP/504 plans and virtual implementation.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
• Proven commitment to student achievement.
• Technology proficiency (learning management systems, Microsoft Office, Google Apps). Reliable high‑speed internet required.
• Microsoft OS‑and Office‑equipped PC preferred.
• Customer‑focused team‑player track record.
• May not provide care for others during normal school hours while on assignment; alternative care arrangements required.
• May not be employed in another job during normal school hours while on assignment.
• Complete required orientation and training within 30 days of hire and at the beginning of each school year.
• Ability to work occasional evening hours as needed.
