Elementary Substitute and Intervention Teacher

Job Description

Instruction, support, and guidance for students in an online environment for the duration of long‑term assignments, performing all duties associated with a classroom teacher. Deliver specific course content, monitor student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system, actively work closely with students and parents/learning coaches to advance each student’s learning toward established goals, and provide intervention services to “At‑Risk” students. Teachers typically work from home but may travel occasionally throughout the year to various school functions.

This role will be a remote full‑time position requiring independence and a professional home office environment.

Required Certificates and Licenses
  • If the current teaching certification is from another state, the hire must obtain reciprocity within Indiana within 60 days of employment.
Residency Requirements
  • Strongly prefer residents of Indiana.
  • May consider residents of surrounding states (MI, OH, KY, or IL).
Salary Range

$46,000 – $50,000 plus eligibility for a performance bonus.

Essential Functions
  • Provides rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
  • Commitment to personalizing learning for all students.
  • Demonstrates a belief in all students’ ability to succeed and meet high expectations.
  • Differentiates instruction based on student level of mastery.
  • Augments course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools under guidance from principal and coach.
  • Maintains grade book ensuring student academic integrity, makes student placement and promotion decisions, and alerts administrators to concerns about student performance and progress.
  • Prepares students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
  • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with and responds to students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner.
  • Supports learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues and basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom environment in line with academy policies and procedures.
  • Travels as required (on average once per month and/or up to 20% of the time) for face‑to‑face professional development, student testing, and other school duties.
Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Active state teaching license.
  • Ability to clear a required background check.

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data, and use it to drive instructional decisions.
  • Receptive to receiving coaching on a regular basis with administrators and teacher trainers.
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
Desired Qualifications
  • Science of Reading certification.
  • Experience working with the proposed age group.
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
  • Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or brick‑and‑mortar environment.
  • Experience with online learning platforms.
Compensation & Benefits

Exempt (salary): $48,000 – Eligible employees may receive a bonus. Salary is not guaranteed and may vary based on geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions.
