University of Arkansas Grantham, founded in 1951, began as Grantham Radio License School—a private, post‑secondary, degree‑granting distance‑education institution. Since 2000, the school has offered degree programs exclusively online. In late 2021, Grantham joined the University of Arkansas System and is now the University of Arkansas Grantham. Part‑time faculty provide online instruction and related outreach to an approximate maximum load of 70 students. Faculty work remotely, report to the Faculty Manager, and teach courses that may begin monthly or quarterly. Courses are eight weeks long, use Blackboard LMS, and run from Wednesday to Tuesday midnight. Course setup is available one week prior to the start date.
Key Job Responsibilities- Follow all University policies as outlined in the University Catalog and Faculty Handbook.
- Provide instruction within the scope of departmentally defined courses, programs of study, and degrees.
- Interact timely with students and provide substantive feedback on student work.
- Offer weekly office hours and maintain timely communication with students, faculty, and staff using email, posts, live‑chat, etc.
- Participate in shared governance of curriculum and, where applicable, contribute to curriculum development.
- Participate in training on necessary technologies to facilitate courses.
- Stay current in the field of study and continue professional development in content, methodologies, and distance‑learning strategies.
- Make independent decisions with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Maintain accurate electronic records for the LMS and university records system; submit all records when required.
- Engage actively in faculty development opportunities (internally and externally).
- Provide feedback on student and faculty issues.
- Apply the philosophy and objectives of UA Grantham to create a positive learning environment, emphasizing ongoing contact, reciprocity, active learning techniques, prompt feedback, high expectations, and respect for diverse talents.
- Proactively engage students through teaching, forums, recorded videos, etc.
- Notify the appropriate University administrator of any course administrative issues promptly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Work Experience Requirements and Desired
Skills:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (required) for undergraduate teaching;
PhD (required) for graduate teaching. - Relevant certifications (required, if applicable).
- Five years of professional experience.
- Complete Faculty Orientation Training Course.
- Online teaching experience preferred.
- Degrees conferred by an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or CHEA agency; foreign degrees must be approved by the appropriate agency.
