Position: SAYS K to 12 Outreach Coordinator (K TO 14 ACAD PREP SPEC 2)

Job Summary

Provide direct service to K-12 students across multiple school districts and school systems, in and around the Sacramento region. Execute school and community programming and work in collaboration with the university, the schools and community to support students' academic achievement and exposure and access to higher education. Under the general direction of the Director of SAYS (Sacramento Area Youth Speaks), the SAYS Outreach Coordinator will serve as a liaison and project lead on activities that support social justice education, student retention, and student support services involving scholars affiliated with SAYS.

Act as a central resource for project development, curriculum design and instruction, student engagement, workshop facilitation, and presentations in community and on campus that promotes educational opportunities for student groups that have been historically underserved and underrepresented in higher education and the workforce, ultimately supporting the academic success of SAYS scholars in local schools. In line with the Sacramento K-16 Collaborative, strategically promote equity and access by motivating and preparing economically and academically disadvantaged students to pursue and succeed in post-secondary opportunities within underserved communities through education, employment, and advocacy.

In this way, the coordinator serves as a critical bridge between the campus, community, and school sites.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience with, and in-depth knowledge of, spoken word performance poetry and hip-hop as an educational tool to effectively reach and teach diverse groups of middle and high school students. Experience as a spoken word performance poet.
  • Experience with creating and giving public presentations to a wide variety of audiences. Experience communicating and interacting with individuals of varying ages, cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Experience leading, training and advising other staff.
  • Experience preparing proposals, correspondence, reports, procedures, agreements, and training documents.
  • Experience using software for word processing, spreadsheets, and student database management programs.
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and working both independently and collaboratively to meet fast-paced deadlines.
  • Proven skills to analyze, evaluate and interpret technical and nontechnical program requirements, information, federal/state/university rules, regulations, and policies in order to make logical conclusions, establish priorities, and select appropriate courses of action. Political acumen and propriety to build partnerships and resolve disagreements.
