Salary/Position Classification
- $17 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
- 17.5-20 hours per week (7:30am-11:00am)

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.
Duties & Responsibilities- Under the supervision of the Center Director, Assistant Director and the ECE Services Supervisor II, the teacher assistant provides support to the ECE Services Supervisor II in the care and active supervision of children 18 months to age 12.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a developmentally appropriate classroom, including all children regardless of their abilities.
- Assist, as directed by the classroom teacher, in maintaining a stimulating learning environment for children.
- Assist, as directed by the classroom teacher, in maintaining a rich and stimulating learning environment by meeting the enhanced requirements as described in Age-Appropriate Environmental Rating Scale, Edition 3 (required for Step 2 of ND Bright and Early) and a rating at least a 5.
- Assist in maintaining a classroom environment that meets the individual child’s need for quiet and active play, both indoors and outdoors each day.
- As directed by the classroom teacher, make adaptations and accommodations in the daily routine to meet the individual needs of all children with or without special needs.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy setting that fosters children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development and that respect their dignity and their contributions (I‑1.5 Code of Ethical Conduct, NAEYC, May 2011).
- Assist classroom teacher in providing developmentally appropriate educational experiences, including all children regardless of ability.
- Follow all educational mandates as set forth by the Department of Health And Human Services, Early Childhood Services Rules for Licensed Childcare Centers and Licensed Preschool Programs, specifically the Childcare Center Early Childhood Services Chapter 75‑03‑10; specifically, 75‑03‑10‑20.1; .2; .3; .4; .8; and .9.
- Assist the classroom teacher in providing daily educational experiences that meets the individual child’s need for quiet and active play opportunities, both indoors and outdoors, throughout each day.
- Assist in maintaining the standards as set for Step 3 of ND Bright & Early by completing activities/duties as assigned by the classroom teacher that are developmentally appropriate and meet the ND Early Learning Guidelines and the principles of Emergent Curriculum.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with sections from Caring For Our Children, 4th Edition, that pertain to education experience standards (including, but not limited to, 2.1 & 2.4.1).
- Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining the health and safety of the environment and the children.
- Assist in ensuring the environment meets the health and safety requirements of young children, specifically maintaining supervision by sight and sound of all children following the mandates as required by the Department of Human Services Early Childhood Education.
- Assist in evaluating the health needs of children daily, using the UCLC guidelines.
- Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining a safe & healthy environment that fosters children’s social, emotional, cognitive & physical development and respect their dignity and contributions (I‑1.5, Code of Ethical Conduct, NAEYC, May 2011).
- Assist in maintaining compliance with sections of Caring For Our Children, 4th Edition, that pertain to health and safety standards, including but not limited to, 3.1‑4.9.
- Assist classroom teacher in effectively and respectfully working with families.
- Communicate with families and/or guardians daily as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all families, except where mandated by law.
- Promote a positive and friendly atmosphere to all families and/or guardians (e.g., extend warm welcomes, use eye contact, address individuals by their name).
- Communicate respectfully with all family members and/or guardians regardless of lifestyle or circumstances.
