Description
Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Education Support Professional (ESP). The position supports academic and behavioral interventions for students under the supervision of certified staff. Expected start date December 2025 or sooner. FTE 0.875, 7 hours per day, PA4 salary level.

Completion of the state‑mandated General Para educator Certificate is required. Staff will complete 28 hours of Fundamental Course of Study training within four months of hire, followed by additional training as outlined.
Responsibilities- Support classroom instruction by reinforcing whole‑class instruction and providing Tier 1 support.
- Provide targeted small‑group support for Tier 2 students.
- Deliver intensive individualized interventions for Tier 3 students.
- Provide one‑on‑one, small‑group, and behavioral interventions as directed.
- Collect, organize, and input student data into district tracking systems.
- Maintain accurate records and assist teachers in monitoring student growth.
- Implement positive behavior strategies, conflict resolution, and de‑escalation tactics.
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, counselors, and other staff.
- Participate in MTSS meetings, training sessions, and professional development.
- Ensure confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA/HIPAA.
- Assist parents by communicating classroom routines, intervention strategies, and student participation.
- Attend meetings, classes, workshops, and seminars related to childhood education.
- Adopt and implement developmentally appropriate practices.
- Maintain predictive attendance and physical presence.
- Assist with potty training and diapering when required.
Flexible hours, possible travel to student homes, exposure to infectious disease, high activity level, lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds, outdoor work in inclement weather, and attendance at meetings beyond the workday.
Qualifications- At least eighteen years old with a high school diploma, equivalency, or higher education (AA or BA). 72 college credits or 48 semester credits at 100‑level or higher qualifies.
- Qualifying score on the Education Testing Service Para educator Assessment, or completion of a registered apprenticeship.
- One year of related work experience or a combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and skills.
- State‑validated Para educator Certificate upon hire.
- Background clearance (WSP, FBI, sexual misconduct) and fingerprints.
- Knowledge of childhood education programs, academic, social‑emotional, and physical development.
- Knowledge of assessment and observation methods and community resources.
- Problem‑solving, crisis management, and flexibility to work independently.
- Proficiency with data collection, computer word‑processing, and equipment operation.
- Effective child and group management strategies; ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Planning preschool curriculum and coordinating parent education.
- Ability to lift, carry, and support students physically.
Special Requirements
District training as required. Educational Assistants with health‑impairment may need first‑aid and CPR certificates.
