Position Title: Instructor (Non-Senate, Non-Tenure Track)
Salary Range: Compensation varies by course delivery format:
Synchronous Live Online courses pay $1,425‑$5,700 total per course; asynchronous Fixed Date courses pay $170‑$180 per enrolled student totaling $1,020‑$7,200; async Start Anytime courses pay $170‑$180 per final student grade per month, totaling $2,720‑$18,000. Compensation depends on course length, units, enrollment, budget, and other factors.
Percent Time: Part‑time by agreement on a course‑by‑course basis.
Anticipated Start: Some appointments may begin as early as the spring semester.
Review Timeline: Applicants considered as needs arise; applicant pool remains for 9‑12 months. Typically reviewed for fall (Feb‑Apr), spring (June‑Aug), and summer (Sept‑Nov). Applicant pool beyond final closing date must reapply.
Position Duration: Course length varies: fall, spring, summer semesters 4‑19 weeks; asynchronous Start Anytime courses 9‑18 months; additional agreements based on program needs, performance, funding.

Position DescriptionUC Berkeley Extension (UNEX), the continuing education branch of the University of California, Berkeley, has been building bridges between UC Berkeley and the public since 1891. UNEX serves the professional and continuing education goals of thousands of people each year and plays an essential part of the University mission to extend the research and scholarship of UC Berkeley to a global community;
increase access to higher education for non‑traditional, online, and international students; and improve the workforce. UC Berkeley Extension is part of the division under the leadership of the Dean of Extended Education that also includes Berkeley Summer Sessions, Berkeley Study Abroad, and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
UC Berkeley Extension invites applications for a pool of qualified, dynamic instructors with a commitment to undergraduate, professional, and continuing education in Business and Management to teach one or more online courses each year.
Courses Offered Online- Asynchronous instruction through Canvas.

- Synchronous Live Online: syllabus and assignment development; lesson planning; prepare and submit required texts; update Canvas; deliver lectures and learning activities.
- Asynchronous Instruction: review syllabus; learn Canvas tools; request training from Program or Department Director.
- All Instruction: complete required trainings under UC Presidential policies; respond to student questions promptly; grade assignments and post final grades; use Canvas, Zoom, Instructor Portal, Google Workspace; follow University and departmental policies; respond to Program or Department Director requests.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications (required at time of application)- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent international degree.
- 3+ years of professional industry work experience since degree.
