Schedule: Flexible (Day Shift)

Job Opening: Skilled Trades Instructor

The Skilled Trades Instructor is a full-time position responsible for delivering all technical training for the Step Up for Recovery Workforce Project. This role provides hands‑on and virtual instruction, oversees credential testing, and ensures high‑quality, consistent delivery of workforce training for individuals in recovery and re‑entry programs.

The Instructor will deliver hands‑on training in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing fundamentals and support self‑paced virtual instruction through WV Women Work’s Interplay Learning platform (training for virtual platform & simulator will be provided). Training may occur at WVWW offices, partner organization sites, or other approved locations across the state. Hands‑on instruction may include simulator‑based training and workshop‑style sessions with groups of up to 20 participants.

The Skilled Trades Instructor is responsible for maintaining training equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and assisting in the development and refinement of training modules aligned with industry standards and employer needs. The position works closely with the Career Coach and Program Coordinator to coordinate participant progress, schedule training sessions, and support individualized re‑entry and employment plans.

In addition, the Instructor will collaborate with local unions, contractors, apprenticeship programs, and construction companies to support workforce entry pathways, referrals, and alignment with regional labor demand.

This position operates on a flexible schedule and may include a combination of remote work, office‑based work, and travel to partner sites to deliver mobile training.

Qualifications
  • Skilled in carpentry, electrical, or plumbing (or a mix)
  • Comfortable teaching beginners in a hands‑on setting
  • Reliable, patient, and able to lead a group
  • Teaching or mentoring experience a plus, but not required
